Mother Goose Cares About Course Description/Statement of Purpose Mother Goose Cares About Math, Science and Social Studies is an integrated curriculum of basic science process skills, social studies standards based on the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) recommendations and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards-based mathematics concepts appropriate for preschool children. This popular combined course is appropriate for Kindergarten and preschool educators and uses 23 works of exemplary children’s literature, chosen for their rich language as well as for the basic mathematics, science and social studies concepts as its core materials. Educators will receive Educator Resource Guides that contain preschool skills, standards and outcomes for mathematics, science and social studies, as well as 23 picture books and instructional materials, including math cards, counting chips, a simple balance, measuring tools and eight hand lenses. All educators are expected to attend each session. Both Undergraduate and Graduate course credits are available through Vermont College of the Union Institute. For graduate credit, the activity write-up will comprise 5-10 pages of work beyond what the undergraduates are doing. Graduate students will be expected to make a report of their work. The cost for the three undergraduate or graduate credits is an additional fee payable to Union Institute. For the college credit enrollment form, please email us.
