Are you from a Vermont elementary school that participates in the Red Clover program? You might be eligible to apply for a free set of the 2010-2011 Red Clover books, thanks to a grant from the Vermont Department of Education. Download the application here. Deadline: April 2, 2010. Contact us if you have questions about eligibility requirements. Note: You must send in your votes no later than April 9, 2010 to qualify for a free set. No votes, no books! This year's Red Clover winner is...Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend! written by Mélanie Watt and published by Kids Can Press. Over 24,000 K-4 children voted for their favorite. Let us know if you'd like a full vote tally. The Red Clover Award committee welcomes two new members: Hyde Park Elementary School librarian Joyce Cormier and Burnham Memorial Library's assistant librarian Pamela Tallmadge. The Red Clover Award promotes the reading and discussion of the best of contemporary picture books in nearly all of Vermont's elementary schools. Each year over 20,000 K-4 students read, or have read to them, the ten nominated books. An educator resource guide contains program guidelines and activities. Many activities in the guide are based on the Vermont Framework of Standards and provide dynamic and thoughtful learning experiences for children. Extending the discussions and activities will help to address even more. How are the nominees selected each year? How can my school or library participate in the program? What's the history of the Red Clover Award? What are the past winners and nominees? Where can I get Red Clover items such as program sets?
