“Parents liked working one-on-one with their child doing the hands-on explorations based on the books. They marveled at how these activities made math concepts so real to their children.”

Children learn through exploration. Exploring mathematics will help your child make sense of and find meaning in the world. You Can Count on Mother Goose provides the books and explorations for you and your child to reason, make connections, learn about numbers and shapes and solve problems.

You Can Count on Mother Goose uses picture books and explorations tied to the ten major Standards for pre-kindergarten to grade 2 that were released in 2000 by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. You Can Count on Mother Goose encourages children to explore, ask questions and to develop mathematical thinking.

Why You Can Count On Mother Goose and who benefits from this program

Children are never too young to explore basic math skills and concepts, just so long as it’s all in fun. When young children are introduced to patterns, measuring, counting, and other everyday math activities it helps them to think like mathematicians and to connect math with their everyday lives. Good books promote the development of both math and literacy skills.

You Can Count on Mother Goose helps promotes school readiness and healthy cognitive and emotional development in children ages three to seven. Parents and other caregivers will gain skills and strategies for reading and talking with children. And everyone benefits when children are better prepared for school.

Do Mother Goose Programs really make a difference?

Mother Goose Programs foster the interest and involvement of children in listening to and discussing a variety of picture, fiction and non-fiction books. There are multiple activities to help children develop a growing interest in reading-related activities based on stories, and promoting the engagement of pretend-reading with other children. Researchers have found that the program supported conversation in the home, encouraged book reading and program and science activities. Children will also have a better understanding of the science process skills and will have performed science activities that will help them have a better understanding of the world around them. Evaluation documenting the positive impact of Mother Goose Programs has been conducted by RMC Research Corp. (Denver, CO) and Learning Innovations at WestEd (Stoneham, MA). more on our research

Are the programs research-based?

Researchers have found that complex conversations, thought-provoking questions, activities, and reflection all lead to strong language and literacy skills. Research has also shown that children are more successful when they are exposed to cognitively challenging experiences. Children also benefit from having conversations with adults in the home and from having picture books read to them regularly. Mother Goose Programs meet these needs and are based on the latest research concerning the cognitive development of children and best practice.

Is any special training required?

No. Mother Goose Programs for families do not require any special training. However, training sessions can be arranged for small groups. To arrange a group training for community professionals, please contact us.
